Stool Guide

Stool Guide

Choosing the right restaurant stools can make all the difference in comfort, layout, and design. At Moda Seating, we’ve put together this guide to help you measure correctly, choose the right stool height, and determine how many stools you need for your bar, counter, or dining area.

1. Measure the Height of Your Counter or Table

Measure from the floor to the top of your counter or table.

  • You’ll want a 10–12 inch difference between the table top and the seat height.

  • Example: A 42" high bar table pairs best with a 30" bar stool.

2. Choose the Right Stool Size

There are four main stool heights:

  • Dining Height: 16"–18"

  • Counter Height: 24"–26"

  • Bar Height: 28"–30"

  • Extra Tall: 32"–34"

Select the stool height that works best with your table or counter.

3. Count How Many Stools You Need

Allow enough room between stools so guests are comfortable:

  • Stools 16"–18" wide → allow 21"–22" of space

  • Stools 19"–22" wide → allow 24"–25" of space

  • Swivel stools or stools with arms → allow even more room
